108 Garage

Luca Longobardi, the man they called “The Mafia’s Banker”, is behind this restaurant on Notting Hill’s Golborne Road.

Set in an old garage, think exposed bare brick walls, a mix of mid-century furniture and copper-toned lighting - following a theme of 'research and repair' with mismatched furniture and crockery.

Chris Denney, formerly of Hambleton Hall (and more recently of Four to Eight, in Covent Garden), heads up the kitchen and his dishes, a unique seasonal fusion of textures and tastes, influences and artistry, have already attracted a devoted following and acclaim - with a bold menu full of stylish dishes - such as barbecued fine leaf mackerel with smoked yogurt and kimchi.

Softening its raw, industrial roots with an eclectic mix of furnishings and artefacts, 108 is still pretty far from your traditional restaurant. By day offering a bright, relaxed atmosphere, by night it transforms into a heady mix of tastes, music and people.

Having met on Gumtree, they are both planning to regenerate several more venues including a New York launderette, LA hardware store and a Miami pharmacy.
