Mark’s Off Madison

A modern day bistro, just off Madison Avenue, from Mark Strausman, the chef behind celebrity hot spot Freds.

Strausman made his name first at restaurateur Pino Luongo’s Coco Pazzo and then at his own restaurant, Campagna before a 24-year-run at Freds as Executive Chef - before Barneys final closure. This venture (replacing A Voce), across from Madison Square Park, has been described as a culmination of his 30 year career. The modern-styled eatery has 100 seats inside and an 85-seat outdoor cafe and includes a bakery, where Strausman is selling his famed bagels.

The menu lists Strausman's “greatest hits,” including Estelle’s chicken soup, lasagna della nonna, sautéed chicken livers, smoked fish platters and coffee cake for brunch. At dinner, he’s also serving slow-roasted chicken in the style of Nanni Il Valetto in honor of Luigi Nanni’s Upper East Side restaurant.

Signature Dishes

Three meat lasagna, roasted suckling pig served with fennel pollen and a port wine sauce, an 18-layer eggplant parmesan, and rib-eye steak.
