Old John’s Diner

The cozy and classic decades-old Old John’s Luncheonette diner has made a comeback under new ownership.

For nearly 70 years, Old John’s Luncheonette was a beloved diner on New York’s Upper West Side but closed amid the pandemic. Restaurateur Louis Skibar (Toloache, Coppelia) has revived the spot where he once worked way back in 1984, when he was 16.

He’s giving the retro interiors a conservative facelift and brought in chef Grayson Schmitz (Jean-Georges, Wallsé) to lead the kitchen, with updated versions of Old John’s crowd-favorite dishes such as blueberry pancakes, meatloaf and chicken pot pie.
