What On Oeuf? Updated

There's a new trend soldiering through London town that's simply cracking, Urbanologie lays it all down especially for U...Hint: It's all about the humble egg!

Several recent (and planned) openings are putting the humble egg on a pedestal and dishing up egg-citing dining experiences across the capital.

Bad Egg (in Moorgate) is the brainchild of chef and self-confessed “egg pervert” Neil Rankin, who also runs barbeque restaurants The Smokehouse. With this recent opening (inspired by modern Chicago diners) Rankin hopes to change perceptions about eggs serving up the likes of North African baked eggs, Malaysian egg sambal with galangal, shrimp and chilli, and a reinterpretation of the full English breakfast and the Bad Egg burger served with a runny yolk.

Across town former Hoxton Grill chef JP Tanti has just opened a new restaurant in Fulham specialising in experimental chicken wing and egg dishes. On offer are duck, quail, emu, and ostrich eggs alongside hen, and can be served any which way you like them. Additionaly WingsEggs serves up wing varieties including Dita Maltease with peanuts and honey, Pimp My Ride cooked in Jack Daniels; Miso Japanese style; and Fulham Jerk wings with a Jamaican marinade.

After two years of pop-ups and flipping eggs at street food markets (and via crowdfunding) The Good Egg is set to open their first all-day brunch neighbourhood café (in Stoke Newington). Dishing up simple dishes inspired from trips to Tel Aviv, Montreal and Califonia, including: The Good Egg Burger - an aged beef and bone marrow patty topped with pickled onion, Russian dressing and a runny egg in a challah roll.

Nearby The Good Egg is a new poached egg bar (run by Foxcroft & Ginger) as part of their new cafe in Beyond Retro on Stoke Newington Road. The eggs are all cooked using 'sous vide' at exactly 63 degrees for an hour - and served in dishes such as chorizo and chermoula sauce poachede eggs with herb roasted mushrooms and sourdough toast poached eggs with smoked haddock, caramelised parmesan cheese sauce.

The founders of the Hoxton Hotel group has launched their first stand alone restaurant venture in partnership with Soho House. Egg Break offers an egg-focused menu comprised of five “dirty” baps and five healthy dishes, including an egg, pork belly, sausage meat and sriracha mayo bap and an egg, bacon and kale bap – along with avocado and eggs on toast and eggs with fried chicken. The 80-seat restaurant, in Uxbridge Street, Notting Hill is open from 8am to 6pm.

In addition Soho House Group is opening another egg-themed restauarant Chicken & Egg Shop, which will soon open in Balham - an enhanced version of the group’s Chicken Shop restaurants – featuring an egg-heavy menu as at its recently-opened branch in Chicago.
