LA can’t get enough pop-up menus these days. In Century City (across from the Creative Arts Agency (CAA)’s offices), the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza is a well-known spot for entertainment business breakfasts and lunches. Now the hotel has spiced things up considerably nightly via Viento, a pop-up menu that offers a taste of Latin cuisine and a new round of artisan-made cocktails in its signature Breese restaurant. (Viento is breeze in Spanish).
Starters are intriguing (don’t miss the al pastor shrimp with pineapple) while larger plates mix Mexican and Caribbean influences. Standouts in include the green mole chicken and the tres mejor asada (a tender cut of strip steak). Cocktails feature premium spirits including the very smooth Cazadores Anejo; a tequila tour offers four shots of elegant selections included an Oaxacan Mezcal. Don’t be put-off that Viento is within a major hotel: the hotel’s culinary chops are comparable to area restaurants, with above par service
