London Calling: Bacon, Freud, Kosoff, Andrews, Auerbach, and Kitaj

Immerse yourself in the artistic world of postwar London and learn more about these six rebellious artists—in their own words.

Now showing at the Getty Museum, this exhibition is the first of its kind in the USA showcasing the work of the “School of London”. Drawn largely from the holdings of the Tate in London, the exhibition highlights the work of six of the leading artists who revolutionized and reinvigorated figurative painting in the later 20th century.

Featuring works by Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Leon Kossoff, Michael Andrews, Frank Auerbach, and R. B. Kitaj, the exhibition focuses on innovative figure works from these artists – who worked from the 1940s through the 1980s – rejecting abstraction and conceptualism in favor of the human figure and everyday landscape.
