Madre Mezcaleria

Go down the Agave rabbit hole with this Mezcal focused bar from the El Atoradero crew in Prospect Heights.

Tequila is delicious, but its lesser known cousin, Mezcal, is what really knocks off our socks. Created by the same people as the temple of Mexican food, El Atoradero, this little unassuming looking mezcaleria, will happily take you by the hand and show you the ropes.

Loaded with nearly 50 different kinds of Mezcal, take a stroll through their menu and see where you end up. There is a good variety to choose from, ranging from the less expensive bottles like Del Amigo all the way through to the higher end liquid likeWahaka Vino de Mezcal Penca Verde. Plus, if you really want to go down the Agave rabbit hole, they have plenty of tequila and even some raicilla for you to get the full experience. If you're looking for other booze, they still have your back with beer, wine, and even other spirits so you'll be sure to find something to match your mood.

Inspired by the small drinking dens of Mexico City, this watering hole is clean and bright, with white walls and splashes of colour and small bites to keep you standing. This snacks include things like Mexican-style cheviche, tostasas, and a raw bar.
