London's New Foodie Hubs

Discover the eclectic line-ups of food outlets and culinary traders making up London's hottest new foodie destinations.

Old Spitalfields Market

A handpicked collection of chefs have come together to form the new Foster+Partner’s designed Kitchens at Old Spitalfields Market. The ten new traders are cooking an exciting mix of contemporary dishes in the market’s relaxed communal environment. The chefs and restaurants (curated by renowned chef Nuno Mendes) range from nose-to-tail dining to a dedicated dessert stall for the sweet-toothed. The eclectic mix (serving unique menus of signature dishes) includes Berber and Q who focus on middle-eastern ingredients, Breddos Tacos bringing a unique take on Mexican cuisine, Bar Barbarian explores Asian flavours, Dumpling Shack serving it’s cult dumpling recipes, Flank offers nose-to-tail comfort food prepared on an open fire, Happy Endings Instagram-worthy desserts, Thousand Knives for Japanese, Sood Family for modern Italian, Rök’s Nordic dishes, and acclaimed street food trader Yum Bun.

The Bloomberg Arcade

Located at the new European headquarters in Queen Victoria Street (between St Paul’s Cathedral and the Bank of England), this foodie hub features cuisines from Hawaiian to Indian. The covered pedestrian arcade runs through the middle of the £1 billion Bloomberg headquarters (also designed by Lord Foster) and houses Brigadiers - an Indian barbecue restaurant and tavern, Hawaiian bowl food specialist Ahi Poké, Antipodean diner and coffee shop Caravan, Japanese udon noodle bar Koya, wine bar Vinoteca, New York-style pizza restaurant Homeslice and New York-style burger bar Bleecker Burger. This culinary destination is open seven days a week and is also home to a second restaurant from Michelin-starred A. Wong - a casual, all day dining menu serving up a creative interpretation of classic Chinese dishes.

The Ned

Nine restaurants sit amidst The Ned’s historic 3,000 square metre former banking hall, serving food from around the world. Each of the restaurants (in this £200m flagship hotel by Soho House group) have their own distinct space within the banking hall, separated by 92 verdite columns and rows of Grade I-listed walnut banking counters. The jazzed-up food court-esque space (seating up to 850 diners) includes: Malibu Kitchen, a healthy Californian-inspired eatery; British and American Millie’s which offers up classics 24 hours-a-day and Zobler’s (pictured), a Jewish-style deli and Kaia - an Asian-Pacific-inspired restaurant. Expect nightly jazz performances, which can be seen and heard from most of the restaurants. One restaurant is dedicated to hotel guests and members only: Lutyens Grill, a classic steak restaurant with gueridon [trolley] service and clubby atmosphere and a rooftop outpost of the group's all-day Venetian brasserie, Cecconi's.

Bang Bang Oriental Food Hall

This eco-friendly cultural centrepiece is also London's biggest Asian food hall. Constructed on the site of the former ‘Oriental City’ food court, the Bang Bang concept (translates as 'Good Good Oriental Food Hall') layers a contemporary filter over the Pan-Asian culinary experience. With up to 32 individual kiosks (set across 32,000 square feet), each unique in their offering, but homogenous in the overall stunning aesthetic, the scheme brings a stylish coherence to the hustle and bustle of an authentic street food experience and a melting pot of cuisines. The flagship restaurant, Chinatown's Golden Dragon, is situated on the ground floor and serves dim sum lunches, with a more extensive, traditional Chinese menu in the evenings. Also, expect an eclectic mix of Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese and Malaysian influences and cuisines, with seating for over 300 diners.

Feast Canteen

Feast Canteen is reinventing the ‘canteen’ concept and dialing it up a notch. The team behind Pergola on the Roof are taking over the food court in Hammersmith Kings Mall, and transforming it into a slick and stylish canteen for the modern age. Bringing in a rotating line-up of London’s most sought-after restaurants, open 7 days a week (from January) with communal seating for 350 diners - offering all-day feasting and food on the go. Breddos Tacos are dishing up fresh tacos using the best of British produce; Patty & Bun, who will be serving their legendary burgers; Salvation Noodles, offering authentic Vietnamese noodles with a modern twist; and Born & Raised creating artisan British pizzas.

Market Hall Fulham

The first of a series of next-level market halls for London kicks off in Fulham, transforming the tube station's old Edwardian ticket hall with a series of kitchens, shops and eating and drinking spaces with over 200 communal dining seats. This street food mecca houses nine different kitchens offering Thai spicing from Thima by Farang; bread and charcuterie from Claude’s Deli (from the folks behind nearby Claude’s Kitchen); sourdough pizzas from Yard Sale, Butchies free range fried chicken and hot drinks from Press Coffee and Calcutta Canteen from Asma Khan, the woman behind Soho’s Darjeeling Express.
