Chinese New Year Celebrations

Ring in the 'Year of the Dog' at one of these top hotels around town.

  • Palace Downtown is painting itself red this month, with all its restaurants serving up Chinese-inspired dishes. Thipthara may be Thai in its DNA, but on Friday, February 16, it will be offering a set menu of dishes such as vegetable dim sum, duck spring rolls and black pepper lobster. AED 488 per person, including a special 'Year of the dog' gift, or AED 888 with house drinks, 6pm-midnight. Argentinian Asado also has a similarly priced four-course set menu on offer, with dishes including Cantonese duck, wonton soup, entrecote and mango panna cotta, complemented by live entertainment. Ewaan will have a buffet featuring Lunar New Year delicacies (from AED 288 per person), while Afternoon tea at Al Bayt will include Chinese cake, matha azuki roll and fortune cookies (AED 188 per person).

  • Specialty Chinese restaurant Yuan at Atlantis the Palm has crafted a special à la carte menu featuring dishes such as Yu Sheng salmon salad served with snow pear; and Stir-fried lobster seasoned with ginger and spring onion, which will be available through the spring festival period from February 15-24. Their popular Yum Cha brunch will also have special New Year offerings included in its offerings, on Friday 16 and 23 (AED 408 per person including drinks). All-day dining restaurant Saffron will include a dim sum carousel and live cooking noodle stations, plus other Chinese specialties at its buffet offering (AED 225 per person), and the casual Asia Republic will also offer an exclusive à la carte menu of dishes such as wok fried jumbo prawns and Cantonese style stir fried ginger beef. Traditional lion dance performances will take place through the resort on February 15 and 16 to mark the New Year.

  • Peppercrab at the Grand Hyatt Dubai will be adding on a traditional Yu sheng salad to its menu, to symbolise good luck, as well as a selection of other authentic Cantonese dishes - from February 15-21.
