Sessanta

Sixty Soho debuts its new Sicilian restaurant, Sessanta - from restaurant maven John McDonald - channelling mid-century Italian glamor and the tastes of coastal Italy.

The revamped Sixty Soho already showcased one impressive new lobby bar from John McDonald last winter in the shape of The Gordon, and we've been waiting ever since to see what comes of the restaurant space. McDonald's seventh restaurant to date - his previous include the Bowery Meat Company, Lure Fishbar and El Toro Blanco - will open this weekend, promising coastal Italian fare in a glamorous dining space inspired by Federico Fellini and Gio Ponti. As much as possible has been sourced from Italy itself, from the olive oil and burrata to the vintage posters and chandeliers. Even the plastering and wallpaper has been done in a mid-century Italian style, thanks to design company Martin Brudnizki (Soho Beach House, Le Caprice).

Chef Jorban Frosolone (Momofuku, Hearth, and Bouley) has devised a menu reinterpreting coastal Italian cuisine using the seasonal ingredients at hand - with some help from his Sicilian grandmother - such as fennel tortellini with pine nuts, golden raisins, saffron and fried sardines; or caciocavallo cheese with Sicilian honey. There is also an Italian wine list and aperitifs, from the traditional house-aged limoncello to the less conventional lavender-cello.

Signature Dishes

Grilled eggplant with burrata, pistachio and fried capers; fennel tortilla with sardines, pine nuts, golden raisins and saffron; and dteamed black bass with cranberry beans, smoked tomato and caper berries.
