Daido Lip Bar at Selfridges

Book your experience in this one-of-a-kind art piece and enjoy the taste of an authentic, oh-so-cosy Japanese speak-easy bar by Japanese artist Daido Moriyama.

Designed by the Japanese artist and photographer Daido Moriyama, the Lip Bar is a nod to the small bars found in Tokyo’s Golden Gai quarter in Shinjuku. The smallest bar in Britian launches – appropriately – on Valentine’s Day and is open until March 3. Seating a maximum of six people, the bar, which measures 6.6 feet by 11 feet, serves just Asahi beer and sake.

The Selfridges one (in partnership with Hamiltons Gallery) is a replica of one of Moriyama’s favorite bars, Bar Kuro, and an homage to one of his most famous works of art, a close-up shot of a pair of lips. The photo covers every inch of the the bar, and will be printed in red and black. Places cost £10 which includes two beers or a cup of sake for a one-hour time slot.
