Carne Mare by Andrew Carmellini

A stylish Italian Chophouse from the James Beard award-winning chef and restaurateur.

The aclaimed chef behind popular NY restaurants Locanda Verde, Westlight, Leuca and Lafayette - is the latest addition to the neighborhood's impressive roster of openings, alongside Jean-Georges Vongerichten and David Chang. Carmellini is bringing a take on the classic Italian chophouse concept to the District - expect this new offering to be as popular as some of his other eateries.

With views of the glistening East River and the towering skylines of Manhattan and Brooklyn, this massive bi-level restaurant designed by the internationally renowned architect Martin Brudnizki oozes 1970's chic, Italian style. The main floor dining room and the larger, formal dining space upstairs have plush caramel-colored Tuscan leather banquettes and Venetian mirrors encased within warm timber-covered walls.

The menu - a mash-up of a classic American chophouse and a regional Italian ristorante - begins with fine seafood, cocktails, oysters, traditional antipasti, salads and carpaccio. Entrées include housemade pastas, seafood and, of course, the main attraction: prime-aged beef, wagyu and prime rib, served with a selection of steakhouse contorni.
