After nearly two decades of honing his skills in Japan, and then in New York as the Executive Chef of the Michelin-starred Yakitori Torishin and also at Chikarashi Isso pop-up at Hotel 50 Bowery - Kono has opened a namesake restaurant - set within Bowery's Canal Arcade, a passageway that connects Bowery to Elizabeth Street.
Dine at a 14-seat chef's counter to enjoy a multi-course kappo-style yakitori omakase menu - rooted in tradition and seasonality. Expect a seasonal, 16-course ($165) kappo-style dinner with dishes such as a rice cracker sandwich appetizer packed with chicken pate, black truffle, and a gold leaf garnish and mizutaki udon noodles in chicken broth with green onion.
The sleek and dramatic dining room has been designed to transport you to Japan - blending traditional Japanese elements with modern touches representing New York's dining culture. In addition to the 14 bar seats, there’s also a semi-private alcove for larger groups of four to six.
