The Ivens

Chiado’s latest 5-star hotel has made its debut with an effortless blend of old world charm and contemporary style.

Inspired by the adventures of the 19th Century explorers Robertro Ivens and Hermenegildo Capelo, The Ivens brims with stylish charm. Off the bustling streets of Chiado, a staff member in kaki attire welcomes you into a grand lobby, up a spiral staircase onto a mezzanine where you’re offered a glass of champagne - you know you've arrived at one of Lisbon's chiquest hotels. Think leather sofas, patterned rugs, eclectic brick-a-brack and an endless supply of art & books on travel to set the tone. All 87 rooms are adorned with wallpaper prints, canvas colours and of course luxurious bathrooms complemented with Acqua di Parma or Jo Malone products. In the warmer months, the outside leafy garden boasts a gorgeous patio filled with lemon trees, umbrellas and a vibrant green colour palate.

Attached to the hotel you’ll find Rocco - hardly your average hotel restaurant and bar.  Unapologetically theatrical, the glamorous gastro bar is embellished with lively upholstery, fringed lampshades, Slim Aarons prints and floral bar stools around a marble topped counter. The restaurant is similarly lavish with mirrors, booths and velvet - the perfect setting for both the breakfast buffet by day and the swanky Neapolitan restaurant by night. You must not leave without a trip downstairs to the infamous jungle-themed bathroom - rumour has it they’re even building a speakeasy jazz bar accessed through one of the lavatory doors.
