The Moth

The Moth has become a story-telling sensation and the hippest literary ticket in New York, branching out beyond the boundaries of the bookish scene into popular culture and entertainment.

Founded in 1997, the premise was simple: true stories, told live. They now host multiple events across America every single week, and are reaching international shores. The flagship Moth Mainstage attracts notable literary and broadcasting personalities ranging from Malcolm Gladwell and Ethan Hawke to David Chang and Salman Rushdie. The StorySLAM is the popular open mic competition held every week in New York with tickets on sale a week before the event and available on the door.

Founder poet and novelist George Dawes Green wanted to revive the lost art of oral story telling, which the group have certainly done, often credited for the boom in story-telling podcasts. If you miss the live event, subscribe to The Moth Radio Hour podcast instead - winner of a Peabody Award - which boasts over 1 million downloads every month.
