Best-known for his two Michelin-star, tasting-menu restaurant the Clove Club, Bar Valette (on Kingsland Road) will be a la carte, taking cues from McHale’s love of simpler cooking from coastal France and Spain. Expect a menu of small plates such as raw ceps salad with a slow-cooked duck egg and rabbit leg stuffed with rabbit farce and mushrooms and sharing-styled main courses such as pork chops, steaks, grilled trout and whole lobsters. As for the wine list, there are references to numerous Spanish wines, including Sherry, Rioja, and drops from the Balearics and Catalonia, as well as bottles from the Rhône Valley and French Pyrenees.
