Alder

Alder grew famous for its elevated American pub food, but now chef Wylie Dufresne has called time on the avant-garde restaurant, which will close at the end of August.

This critically-acclaimed East Village spot is a modern ode to the public house. Chef Wylie Dufresne and chef de cuisine Ryan Henderson created a menu of elevated and innovative pub food, distinctly American in style and inspired by the city around them. They recently announced they will close at the end of August after two-and-a-half years of service, though are already on the hunt for a new home. Dufresne's more experimental flagship wd-50 also shuttered last November as the building was being demolished.

Until its closure, they will still be offering the five-course prix fixe tasting menu for $65 per person, which includes Okonomiyaki silver dollars, grilled octopus, Kewpie mayo and brie ice cream with Triscuit, port wine, pickled cherries. But in addition, Dufresne has created a big hits menu of some of the favorite dishes so far, including the 'pigs in a blanket' (Chinese sausage, Japanese mustard, and sweet chili sauce) and rye pasta with shaved pastrami, as well as the famous beer-cheese burger — made with a combination of chuck, brisket, and shio kombu that's cooked in sake and tamari.
