Atera

Before closing, Atera earned two Michelin stars under chef Matthew Lightner, and was one of New York's most high-profile fine-dining destinations. Now, it has reopened with Danish Ronny Emborg at the helm, and a brand new tasting menu.

Danish Ronny Emborg has become something of a star in Europe. Winning Danish chef of the year, he has spent time at El Bulli, earned a Michelin star at Restaurant AOC in Copenhagen, and was Margrethe II, Queen of Denmark's private chef. Being at the vanguard of the culinary Nordic movement, foodies of New York are excited to see what he has in store for the acclaimed Tribeca tasting counter.

The highly technical menu includes the likes of sturgeon caviar, foie gras, and oysters. The flavors are intense and approach playful, and with the set up of Atera putting diners in prime position to watch the kitchen, it should be quite a spectacle. Interestingly, the restaurant has decided to eliminate tipping in favor of service included in the price, which is $235. There will also be a "temperance pairing" option for non-drinkers featuring fresh juices.
