1921 Gucci Café

The label's first restaurant, 1921 Gucci Café in Shanghai.

Gucci is not the only fashion house to enter the restaurant scene. With the realisation of both Armani's Fifth Avenue hotspot and Ralph Lauren's Polo Bar, and the recently opened Thomas's restaurant in Burberry's flaghsip London store, major fashion brands are tapping into the catering business.

Located in the in the IAPM luxury shopping centre in the Chinese city of Shanghai, the 1921 Gucci Café – named after the year the brand was founded – features a primarily Italian menu with dishes that touch almost every region of the country. The restaurant is accessed via an elevator from the Gucci store in the mall. Once inside, diners are surrounded by velvet, pillows, and Gucci-emblazoned items including silverware, napkins, and menus.

Although 1921 Gucci Café is the brand’s first full-service restaurant, there is a Gucci-themed cafe in Florence attached to the Gucci museum, which opened in 2011 to celebrate the label’s 90th anniversary.
