La Dame de Pic heads to NYC

French chef Ann-Sophie Pic, one of only a handful of female chefs to be awarded three Michelin stars (and the only female chef in France to do so), is to open two new restaurants in New York City next year.

Both will be located in a new building at 510 Madison Avenue, at 53rd Street, and both will be outposts of restaurants she already operates overseas.

Famed for her restaurant La Dame de Pic in Paris and Maison Pic, her family’s restaurant and country Inn in Valence, in the South of France, she was voted Best Female Chef in 2011 by the organisation which publishes the list of the world’s best 50 restaurants.

Her first ventures in New York will be Metcafé, the more casual of the two venues, on the ground floor of the building. On the second floor will be La Dame de Pic, a relaxed yet elegant fine dining restaurant. At her Paris restaurant of the same name, there are tasting menus based on fragrances, from her collaboration with the Japanese perfume expert Takasago.

Maison Pic first won three Michelin stars in 1934, but its rating had dropped to two until Pic took over, with her husband, David Sinapian, in 1997. It won back the third star a decade later.

Opening dates have yet to be announced.
