The Mark hotel in Manhattan is now home to the largest suite in America and, at £49,000 a night, the world’s most expensive too. The Mark’s extravagant new penthouse suite is a five-bedroom penthouse suite spread over 12,000 sq ft and the entire 16th and 17th floors of the Upper East Side landmark building and even has its own conservatory. Guests enter the penthouse directly from one of the three elevators that service the suite, which has stunningly furnished interiors by French designer Jacques Grange. You can even request dinner by three-Michelin-starred Jean-Georges Vongerichten (who oversees The Mark’s ground-floor restaurant), served at your dining table where you can seat up to 24 people.

The Royal Penthouse Suite of the Hotel President Wilson, in Geneva, is famous for being the largest one in Europe (1’680 sqm in total) and surely one of the most luxurious Suite in the world. Located on the top floor of the hotel, the Royal Penthouse Suite offers 12 luxury bedrooms including marble bathrooms, as well as a private terrace with panoramic view over the lake and the Mont-Blanc. With every conceivable amenity, such as one of the 3 biggest Bang & Olufsen TV screen in the world, a Steinway grand piano, a billiards table, a collection of ancient books and pieces of art, as well as a private gym. The one-of-a-kind Ty Warner Penthouse (at the Four Seaons New York) is the highest hotel suite in the city as well as being the most expensive hotel room in North America. Created by visionary architects I. M. Pei and Peter Marino, the suite (covering the entire top floor of the hotel) was seven years and $50 million in the making. The glass-balconies (there are four) and floor-to-ceiling windows mean uninterrupted, 360-degree views of all Manhattan. Custom-commissioned in every detail, from semi-precious stone surfaces to fabrics woven with platinum and gold, the nine-room suite raises the bar for even the most seasoned travellers. Guests staying also benefit from access to indoor-outdoor Zen garden, private spa and services of both a personal butler and a personal trainer/therapist, and a private chauffeur for unlimited travel during your stay in your choice of either a Rolls Royce Phantom or a Mercedes Maybach. The Lanesborough Hotel’s extravegant seven-bedroom Royal Suite has been completely renovated as part of the hotels £80 million refurbishment, and is London's most expensive suite.Bearing all the hallmarks of its distinguished designer, the great Alberto Pinto - who designed the Royal Suite to reflect the elegance and grandeur of Regency palaces and stately homes. Extending across 4800 square feet, it houses seven bedrooms and bathrooms, two living rooms (with floor-to-ceiling windows) and dining room (for up to 12 guests) all decked out with exacting attention to period detail and “no expense has been spared” vigor. The Royal Suite may be booked in part as well as in its entirety. Guests booking all seven bedrooms have access to the hotel’s chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce Phantom as a complimentary service, as is access to a 24-hour personal butler service. Price: £26,000

The lavish ‘Maharaja’s Pavilion’ at the Raj Palace Hotel in Jaipur, India is also known as the ‘Presidential Suite’, is a four floor suite with its very own private elevator connecting each floor. The Raj Palace was converted into a luxury heritage hotel in 1996, and is an unmatched example of Rajasthan’s regal character, charm and grandeur. Boasting four opulent bedrooms, the total area of the suite is 16,000 square feet. The Pavilion also features a private lounge, library, a lavish dining room connected to the kitchen and boasts a private rooftop terrace with panoramic view of the city as well as a jacuzzi, swimming pool and a private spa.
