Via Carota

West Village restaurants Buvette and I Sodi both have reputations that are among the best in the area. Now, the chefs behind the two venues – Jodi Williams and Rita Sodi, a couple in real life have collaborated on a new project.

Named Via Carota (Carrot Street) after a thoroughfare in the small Tuscan town where Sodi grew up, the restaurant opened late October.

Buvette specialises in short-dish French fare, with a limited menu. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the small restaurant is always packed with locals who value the quaint, rustic surroundings, well-chosen wine list, and excellent pastries.

I Sodi, meanwhile, is the city's most authentic Tuscan restaurant, specializing in cold meats and cheeses, classic pastas served perfectly, and with regularity.

Via Carota serves the best of both establishments, with dishes including fried artichokes (Artichokes are a favourite staple of Sodi, who has produced artichoke lasagna at her eponymous restaurant, while Williams has a passion for octopus), roasted squab, and a take on a burger.

There is enviable wine list, with bottles from throughout Italy and some French numbers too.
