The Carroll Gardens original is steeped in glorious Americana, with stacked sandwiches inspired by the good and the great of America’s sandwich history. They have a hero shop in Red Hook and a deserved place amongst the gourmet stalls of Gotham West, but their new spot in Greenwich Village will be their second bona fide restaurant and food store.
Owning team Eric Finkelstein and Matt Ross were approached by Sasha Noe, the man behind classic Fanelli’s Cafe and a fan of Court Street Grocer, to open an outpost in his building because it’s the sort of place he wanted in his neighborhood.
Right now chef Mary Ellen Amato only offers breakfast and lunch, but dinner will come soon, along with the liquor and wine license. Moving on from the sandwiches that made them famous, they’ll also offer a full menu of dishes, served counter-style. There will be a downstairs grocery in about a month including the goods from their original store, plus a new roster of New York food businesses that wouldn’t previously deliver to Brooklyn. In short, more of the same, and better.

The Vegitalian with roasted squash, multiple cheeses, Duke's mayo, rocket, and their own Hoagie Spread on a Caputo's seeded club roll; or an updated take on the Greek salad with olives, feta, lettuce, roasted squash, pickled fennel, anchovy, and a red-wine vinaigrette.
