Insa

High caliber tabletop Korean barbecue, disco-ball bedecked karaoke booths, and Korean-inspired tiki cocktails - what more do you need for a dinner party? Introducing Insa, open this week in Gowanus.

Chef Sohui Kim and her husband/partner Ben Schneider made a name for themselves with the notably excellent and super cosy Good Fork in Red Hook. Now the pair have gone big with this 4,600-square-foot, 136-seater sleek Korean and karaoke joint.

The Korean barbecue is the star attraction, cooked on custom-made grill tables, with over a dozen banchan (side dishes) and locally sourced meats such as marinated shot rib and thinly sliced pork belly. But Kim has also called on her heritage for the rest of the menu, devoted to different aspects of traditional Korean cooking.

The 36-seater Asian exotica style bar also offers snacks, such as the dumplings made famous at The Good Fork, along with soju, of course, and Korean influenced tiki cocktails. But it’s all about the private karaoke rooms; themed to suit your mood, choose from psychedelic, jungle, deep sea, or space.
