East Village cocktail den Death & Co was one of the first serious craft cocktail bars in New York City when it opened in 2006.

And in the years since, it has not only gained a solid reputation as an elegant, esteemed institution for those who take their mixing and muddling seriously but has influenced the drinking culture across the country.

There are more than 500 recipes with which to impress your drinks party guests, but also plenty of intelligent, useful background information for the amateur bartender, including which glasses to use for which drinks, how and why to cut garnishes into different shapes.

David Kaplan and Alex Day, proprieters of Death & Co, have also profiled some of the bar’s regulars, with their preferred drink, to help build a portrait of the bar and those who frequent it.
