Kit Kemp, co-owner and Design Director for Firmdale Hotels, is passionate about creating exciting and unique interiors, and shares with U her favourite New York hangouts.

Firmdale Hotels comprises 9 hotels in London (including Ham Yard Hotel and The Soho Hotel) and New York (Crosby Street Hotel), each individually designed and decorated by Kit Kemp - internationally acclaimed for her individual and original approach to design and the hotels embody her talent for arranging spaces with a carefree and colourful spirit. 

Rebecca Hossack Gallery

Founded in 1988, the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery is a contemporary art gallery exhibiting the most innovative and original Western and Aboriginal art. The gallery has two exhibition spaces in London and a third in New York. "Art is very important to me and also for our hotels. I’m always visiting art exhibitions for inspiration. Rebecca Hossack always has something interesting, there’s always energy and colour."

McNally Jackson

McNally Jackson is an independent (and convivial) bookstore in New York City (between Lafayette and Mulberry) and the center of Manhattan’s literary culture. Expect a rigorously curated book selection, bustling cafe and McNally's event series - features lots of literary luminaries. "One of my most favourite independent bookshops. There’s a cosy little café and it is the perfect place to curl up and leaf through a beautiful book."

Delicatessan on La Fayette

An upscale delicatessen serving up international comfort food (and familiar favourites with a twist) on the crossroads of SoHo and NoLIta neighborhood. "It has an amazing brunch menu. The omelettes are delicious and the Texas Benedict is wicked".

Min

An indie apothecary in NoLita established in 1999 by curators Chad Murawczyk and Mindy Yang. MiN New York creates and curates niche fragrance, beauty and grooming products from around the world. In 2014, MiN New York launched SCENT STORIES, a collection of limited edition fragrances composed of fine ingredients from around the world. "A beautiful Haute parfumerie & apothecary. I love to go in and smell the rare fragrances from all over the world". 

Whitney Museum of American Art

"Whitney Museum of American Art in the meat packing district is just spectacular!". The "Whitney" houses one of the world's foremost collections of modern and contemporary American art - with a special focus on works by living artists. Designed by architect Renzo Piano and situated between the High Line and the Hudson River, Whitney Museum of American Art's signature exhibition (the Biennial) is the country's leading survey of the most recent developments in American art.

Firmdale are to open another hotel in New York City at 18 West 56th Street, in Midtown. The building will stand 16 stories and 196 feet tall and comprise 86 rooms with a similar aesthetic to their Crosby Sreet Hotel (in SoHo), with the design offering a historical take on the ‘industrial chic’.
