Marta

Marta is the new Italian restaurant at the Martha Washington Hotel, just north of Madison Square Park, where head chef Nick Anderer, the chef and partner at New York’s Maialino, the upscale restaurant on Lexington Avenue, has teamed up with Danny Meyer, the restaurateur and CEO of the Union Square hospitality group.

The menu includes an array of thin crusted, wood-fired pizzas, including a classic Margherita, and a Funghi and Tartufata made with Béchamel sauce, fontina and white truffles. Marta also offers breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner every day, with changing specials of the day.

The lunch menu includes the pesce spada, swordfish served with roasted fennel, and the pollo ubriaco, beer-brined chicken breast served with arugula and tomato salad. The menus offer more just pizza though, with Ialian-influenced dishes like lamb chops with ribs and sausages, and trout served with prosciutto, sage and lemon. The dessert menu includes tiramisu and classic Italian ice cream.

The drinks menu includes draft beers, Italian and local bottled beers, wine and champagne.  Marta also offers a range of Italian-skewed cocktails, such as the Amaretto sour, the Mortoni, made with Wódka vodka, Campari and tonic, and the bottle-aged Negroni with Beefeater Gin, Campari and Cinzano Rosso.

The interior of the restaurant is bright and modern with simple furniture and an open kitchen offering a full view of the wood burning ovens. There are also bar seats where diners can get even closer to the action.
