Owners Drew Cane and Bryan Cowan (above) - newcomers to the restaurant world from former money management roles - discovered the eponymous speciality while on the islands, and decided New York was seriously lacking in good poké (poh-kay) options.
This fast-casual restaurant offers three sizes of made-to-order poké bowl, assembled at the counter, with diners choosing from a base (white or brown rice, zucchini noodles) and toppings (ahi tuna, crab salad, wasabi-avocado cream, and tobiko). More than simply healthy, these are happy fish from responsible purveyors such as Greenpoint Fish & Lobster Co. Take your bowl and sit at one of the communal tables or at the counter.
Poké is having a bit of a moment over in LA with Sweetfin Poké, Poké Bar and Poké Shop, so let’s see how New Yorkers take to this new iteration of raw fish.
