Tavern on the Green

The Tavern on The Green in Central Park has long been a New York institution, appearing in numerous films including Wall Street, Ghostbusters, Beaches and Alfie.

There is a bar menu, lunch, brunch, and a late tea, as well as a dinner menu. The latter features dishes such as grilled yellowfin tuna, grilled Berkshire pork chop and Lobel’s prime NY strip steak. On the dessert menu is a selection of artisan cheeses, single origin chocolate mousse and birthday cake.

The drinks menu includes an array of wines by the glass as well as the bottle, from the US, Americas and France.  There is also a selection of beers, and cocktails named after the different boroughs in New York. The Manhattan is made with Breuckelen 77 wye whiskey, sweet vermouth and angostura bitters, while the Queens cocktail is bootlegger vodka mixed with velvet falernum (a sweet almond, ginger and cloves syrup), sorel hibiscus liqueur, pomegranate molasses and lemon juice.

The Tavern originally opened in 1934 and was reincarnated in the 1970s by the late New York businessman and restaurant impresario Warner LeRoy. The 2014 renovated restaurant now has the new additions of a crystal room with Tiffany chandeliers, and an enlarged dance floor with an outdoor patio.
