My Perfect Day - Nadine Kanso

Acclaimed jewellery designer, founder of the Bil Arabi jewellery line and photographer Nadine Kanso, is a well-respected fixture on Dubai's art and design scene. She tells us about her perfect day, and favourite places to go in Dubai.

  • How do you start your day?

I start the day with kisses from my boys (I have two sons) before they go to school, then I drink a cup of hot water with a slice of lemon and orange blossom essence. After that, it is a quick breakfast and then rushing to D3 where my offices are.

  • Leisurely lunch go to?

I love Zuma in DIFC for lunch, it has a great buzz and great food.

  • Favourite way to pass the time in Dubai?

There are so many things to do here! But a calming stroll on the beach from time to time or just chilling in the garden with close friends are some of my favourites.

  • Favourite Dubai landmark, and why?

It has to be Burj Khalifa, it's iconic and so design oriented that I cannot stop starring at it every day. I love it the most at sunset when it looks like a solid metal mat structure as if it was just rendered on a piece of crisp paper.

  • Tipple of choice and favourite cocktail hangout?

I would have to say Coya – it’s cool and sophisticated, the space is beautiful and has a certain warm charm to it.

  • Favourite Dubai restaurant, and why?

That’s got to be La Petite Maison, the food is consistently impeccable. You can never go wrong here, and the service is just the best in town.

  • Favourite dining destination?

I love going back home to Beirut, it has such a great vibe. When there, I always go to ‎Casablanca.

  • Final stop for a nightcap, and why?

The terrace of La Cantine du Fauborg. It’s a great place, under the stars and towering buildings of Dubai, plus their music is just what I love. Plus, the way the art is curated makes it different from the rest.

  • Best hangover remedy?

Bloody Mary with water and Panadol... although I don't usually over drink!

  • What’s your favourite art destination in Dubai?

I’m an artist at Cuadro Gallery, but that’s not the only reason – I love the gallery, and the way they hang the art pieces... It is always a story told on the walls.

  • Where next on your travels?

I’m headed to Milan for Design Week in April, I love it there at that time of the year.

  • Your favourite thing about Urbanologie?

It’s a destination by itself, where you can constantly  discover cool new places.

Nadine Kanso, one of the best known ambassadors of Arab culture through art and design, was born and bred in Beirut, but now calls Dubai home. She founded her high-end jewellery label Bil Arabi in 2006 (available at Harvey Nichols, Bloomingdales and Sauce boutiques), which draws inspiration from the Arabic alphabet for its statement designs. Also a keen photographer, Nadine has done it all - from exhibiting at the Victoria & Albert Museum, to having her creations sold at Christies.
