While there is a well-known restaurant in Berlin of the same name, this Astoria spot is of no relation. This District Mot is one of the many growing Astoria food options. Opened by Queens native Michael Lien with his father who moved from Saigon as a young man, this Vietnamese restaurant serves updated classic dishes, filled with organic ingredients and loaded with little extra bits to keep things interesting. The Pho, for example, comes with bone marrow and their vegetarian selection is seriously expensive.
While the space formally held a 99-Cents store, you'd never know it by the beautiful work international design company Tenant Design (Saison - SF, Gramercy Table - Tokyo) has done. With room for around 50 diners, it has been divided up between couches, small tables and a large communal table perfect for gathering around.
