A recent announcement confirmed the opening (next Spring) of a new West-End outpost of Soho House - close to the original members’ club on Greek Street. Soho House Dean Street will comprise of an all-day brasserie, a series of drawing rooms and bars, an open courtyard as well as a roof terrace.
Another Soho intuition (also on Greek Street) is currently celebrating a new lease of life, following a spectacular transformation by venerable new owners Brian Clivaz (Home House, The Arts Club) and Laurence Isaacson (co-founder of Groupe Chez Gerard). L’Escargot is the oldest French restaurant in London (originally established in 1927) and has been at the epicenter of London life for almost a century, and continues to serve up popular bourgeois seasonal French dishes accompanied by an excellent wine list (with many reasonably priced).
The newly opened 'Upstairs Club' at L’Escargot is a welcome addition to the raft of new private members clubs (The Library and Club at Café Royal). The Upstairs Club comprises a collection of six (kaleidoscopically redecorated) rooms with an eclectic art collection of both traditional and contemporary works. The Bureau can seat up to 40 people and is ideal for cocktails. On the top floor is the Salon Grande Siècle: a large, light, barrel vaulted room and three eccentrically designed rooms offering members space to lounge, network and eat (club specialities include Spicy Crab Toast with the famed Crème Brulée and, of course, Snails).
A new City-based members club has also just been confirmed, following the news that Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts will be transforming the former Port of London Authority headquarters at 10 Trinity Square (near to the Tower of London), into a ‘super luxury’ hotel and residential development. The private members’ club at Ten Trinity Square, located in the original wood-paneled executive offices of the building, will offer members stylish and exclusive meeting rooms, a business centre, screening room, cigar lounge and access to an exclusive Château Latour room.
