Barano is a Southern Italian restaurant sitting in the shadow of the Williamsburg Bridge on Broadway. The brainchild of chef Al Di Meglio who wooed pasta lovers, fellow chefs and grilled meat & fish fanatics over at Rubirosa on Mulberry Street, this new project focuses a bit more on a specific small island off the coast of Naples called Ischia.
Reading like a memory of the chef's grandmother's childhood home, the menu is filled with wood-fired treats like thin crust pizzas, spit-roast lamb, and grilled asparagus. There's plenty of fresh pasta around plus hand-pulled-to-order mozzarella three different ways which are nothing short of incredible.
The dining room is small and homey while maintaining rustic and refined feel with 89 seats spread out between banquettes, large dark leather booths, small tables and a wooden bar.
