Worlds Best Night Clubs

Urbanologist Rob Wood of Music Concierge has put together a list of the world's top nightclubs, plus an exclusive Spotify Playlist for Urbanologie.

Cielo, Meat Packing District, NYC

Francois Kevorkian is one of my favourite DJs. Someone who completely understands the arch of dance music history and its connection to the human soul and spirit. His Deep Space night is well worth checking out at this small but perfectly shaped venue. Also of note is Roots NYC at Cielo for the likes of Louie Vega and Blaze’s Kevin Hedge.

CLF Art Café otherwise known as The Bussey Building, Peckham, London

London seems to have few decent venues now that Plastic People has closed. This warehouse style building is a Peckham institution which plays host to various live and DJ led music offerings. You might catch Nathaniel Rateliff or Lack Of Afro live down here one night, and old school Bronx DJ John Morales the next. Comes complete with the tasty Rye Wax record store and bar in basement.

Kaffibarinn, Reykjavik

Most night clubs these days seem to be more about champagne than music which is sad to see. This place is the utter antithesis of that. It is a tiny but quietly great bar-come-club that music people in Reykjavik love. Decent local DJs grace the wheels of steel, but what makes it is its welcoming crowd. To be honest thanks to their vodka I can’t really remember what happened the last two times I went there, but I do know it was really very good!

Nitsa, Barcelona

This has been one of the best clubs in Barcelona for years. Credible underground DJs from across Europe such as Maceo Plex or Kompakt’s Michael Mayer can be found there. A great time to visit is during Sonar in June which is one of the best electronic music and arts festivals any where.

Worldwide, Sète, France

This is actually a festival run by Gilles Peterson and his ace Brownswood Recordings label, but it is paradise for anyone interested in contemporary music and club culture. With a Mediterranean sea back drop, this French working port plays host to the likes of Anderson Pak, Kamasi Washington, Quantic, Floating Point and Four Tet for a week in July. It’s an annual pilgrimage for me and my friends that beats most muddy corporate-aging-rock fests hands down.
