The 10-storey Switch House, part of the existing Tate Modern site on London's South Bank, is complete. It incorporates and extends Tate's already extensive and world-class art collection, while keeping with the architecturally raw industrial feel of the current Tate Modern venue. There are urban spaces to the south and west of the new structure, completing the site’s transformation from a closed, industrial ruin to an open, public space. There's also a new focus on digital technologies in art, aimed at keeping the venue on the forefront of the international art world and its trends.
The site houses a couple of exciting eateries, one casual and one more formal. There's the Switch House Bar (100-seater), which has craft beers, coffee, own-blend wines and and all day menu (with everything from breakfasts to rotisserie chicken), while the top levels offer fine dining at the Switch House Restaurant.
The Restaurant's solid and stark decor mirrors the Turbine gallery's pared down elegance, but its menu might belong more to the Tate Britain - colourful, ornate and very British dishes like Chalk Stream Trout with leek vinaigrette, air dried ham and horseradish veloute shine alongside a spectacular list of elite international wines.
