If the thought of nibbling on meat while sipping on drinks for a carefully curated list is your idea of a good time, be sure to check out Cherry Point. Opened by Julian Calcott, who did some serious time as executive sous chef under April Bloomfield at the acclaimed Spotted Pig, this 57-seat restaurant has a few familiar flavors mixed through with a unique style that makes this place an instant classic.
House-made charcuterie and cheese, plus dishes like tartare, skate wing, and Poussin showcases the skilled talent of the kitchen team along without feeling over fussy. Straight forward and delicious, the menu is kept simple allowing the freedom to change the dishes regularly with the seasons and creative whim of the chefs. There is certainly an amount of French influences here, but without the heaviness sometimes associated. Garret Smith of The Finch is in charge of the drinks program, creating a menu of classic twists like the Cherry Point Sour with smoked scotch, fresh lemon, a splash of red wine. The wine list is also carefully curated with wines available by the glass and carafe if you're drinking with friends.
The space itself has been touched up with consideration from co-owner and former set designer Vincent Mazeau. Knickknacks and oddities like random baseballs and globes give you plenty to keep your eyes entertained and makes you instantly feel at home.
