This highly anticipated deck extension at Burj al Arab has been worth the wait. The 10,000 square metre terrace - which was manufactured off-site in Finland, shipped here in eight parts, then assembled over several months - is a luxury leisure offering designed to reflect the sail-like shape of the hotel, while recreating a tropical forest canopy in a stylised manner. The contemporary, clean design in earthy, natural shades features blue and gold mosaic tiles, glass panels, and handmade light installations.
The outdoor area includes two pools - a freshwater as well as a saltwater infinity pool; a white-sand beach; four Jacuzzis and a swim-up bar; plus air-conditioned cabanas with butler service, mini-bar, Bang & Olufsen TVs, fresh fruit, espresso machines and various other amenities (it's basically like having a hotel room for a day). The Scape Restaurant & Bar boasts an alfresco setting, unrivalled views across the Arabian Sea, and a modern California-inspired menu, as well as creative cocktails.
The Terrace is available for hotel guests as well as members; Scape Restaurant is open for dining reservations.
