Chef Zak Pelaccio has come a long way since he first made his name with the buzzy Malaysian restaurant, Fatty Crab in the West Village. Since he left the group in 2011, he has gone on to open several other spots and most recently has been calling Fish & Game up in Hudson home. His work at this farm-to-table restaurant has not gone unnoticed and Pelaccio recently picked up a James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef of the Northeast, putting his name and skills back into the limelight of foodie culture.
Along with his Fish & Game co-owner, it looks like Palaccio is going back to his roots for their this project. Housed within BackBar, their cocktail den located on Warren Street also in Hudson, Bakar is open for lunch and dinner, putting forth dishes like curried crab and fish chowder and spicy lab salad with pork shoulder in an approachable environment. While Fish & Game keeps their prices on the high end of the spectrum, Bakar is much more accessible with most plates under $20 a pop, aiming to not just be another destination restaurant but one that locals can enjoy regularly.
