Streetbird Rotisserie

With Red Rooster, chef Marcus Samuelsson changed the face of the Harlem dining scene, and now he has expanded to a new spot around the corner.

Chef Marcus Samuelsson can be thanked for elevating the position of fried chicken in the world's eyes. Barack Obama has even held fundraising dinners at the Red Rooster. And now, Samuelsson has expanded his domain with a ‘kitchenette’ called Streetbird Rotisserie, about ten blocks south of Red Rooster, by the 116th Street subway.

As the name suggests, the celebrity chef is focusing on rotisserie chicken, but rather than reproduce the classic French version, he has channelled his Swedish and Ehtiopian routes to reinvent the dish. In a casual graffiti-covered space, the menu includes 'bird broth' - hot on the bone broth trend - and 'dessert hot dogs' with almond paste and whipped cream on a brioche bun. Healthy as ever.
