Tavern 62

Years after parting ways with his former company, chef David Burk is back, serving up delicious food in the Upper West Side.

Chef David Burke is slowly rebuilding his empire in NYC, most of which he lost to his former partners years ago, starting with the old Fishtail space over on 62nd street. The site has been transformed, calling on some of the old school New York glamour seen in previous decades with a long marble bar, leather banquettes, a panelled ceiling and a dark paint job. This former townhouse is filled with various rooms for different functions, making this more than just another restaurant, it's a new centre for life.

The food is bold and nuanced at the same time with dishes like the Angry Lobster Scramble - a scrambled egg dish with lobster, and Cream Fraiche plus the addition of basil, lemon and chili oil, - and the Duck Duck Duck meant for two to share - Duck served three ways to keep your guessing and expand your culinary horizons. None of these flavors are too far off the beaten path, but they all have slight twists and turns to keep you guessing.

Over on the drinks front, they've done a very good job collecting bottles from around the world to create a truly diverse list. Sommelier Manny Paredes has also put together a beer menu of craft brews, with many from the local region and a cocktail selection, many of which are twists on classics.
