Mala Project

Ushering in a different kind of Hot Pot, this spice driven eatery has loads of options and plenty of flavour.

Hot Pot style restaurants are much like that of a Korean BBQ: It's fun, but after a while, you just want to eat. Mala Project in the East Village brings you the best of all worlds. It's official: Dry Hot Pot has arrived.

Order a handful of ingredients from their 52 item strong list and the chefs do all the cooking for you, delivering it quickly to your table for you to gobble up, keeping potentially burned fingers out of the picture. They've really gone wide on this list so be prepared to consider everything from beef tenderloin to chicken hearts, and pig arteries. These guys pride themselves on bringing the heat, so pick what level of spiciness you want from four levels, and get ready. Rice comes free with each pot, which is a nice addition to some of the spicier options.

It's a bit minimal here, with white washed brick and basic tables, but when the flavours are so focused, you'll hardly be looking at the walls.
