Michelin-starred British chef Jason Atherton plans to open a New York restaurant in May 2015 – one of three venues he will open in the next year.

Social on Madison will be a joint project with restaurateur Stephen Starr - who owns Morimoto and Buddakan - in Ian Schrager’s forthcoming Edition hotel on Madison Avenue.

The restaurant will be designed to feel like an old English social club, with a billiard room and a vintage bar, a slice of old England in a modern New York hotel, designed by David Rockwell.

Atherton was the first British chef to complete a stage at Feron Adria’s famous el Bulli restaurant in Spain, in 1998, before joining the Gordon Ramsay Group in 2001 as the executive chef for Verre in Dubai. In 2005, he returned to the UK and opened Ramsay’s Maze, which was followed by outposts of the restaurant in Melbourne and Qatar.

In 2011, Atherton left the Ramsay group to set up the Pollen Street Social in Mayfair, which won a Michelin star in its first year and has been named Restaurant of the Year and London’s best fine dining restaurant. He has since opened more restaurants in London – including Little Social and the Berners Tavern - and in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Social on Madison is set to open on May 1 2015.
