La Milagrosa - Update

With a deli in front and a speakeasy in back, there's a new Mexican place from Felipe Mendez in Williamsburg

"The Miraculous" (aka "La Milagrosa") is the latest addition in the Williamsburg strip of hipster-friendly Mexican joints on Havemeyer Street from restauranteur Felipe Mendez. Nestled in next to La Superior and Cerveceria Havemeyer - both awesome south-of-the-border joints featuring great chow and happy hours - this new place takes things to another level.

When you first walk in, you'll see a Mexican deli, with all the best authentic delicacies like Mole, chorizo and prickly pear, plus, all the sauces and spices that you should buy and cook with to get that traditional flavour at home. So far so good. But walk on back past the bench on the electric lime green wall and eye up an innocent looking freezer. Behind this door, you'll find a semi-secret bar and lounge decked in wood panelling and disco balls. Armed with an agave-fuelled back bar and a menu of snacks meant to enhance the delicious and complex flavour of the variety of mezcals and tequilas, this is where things get loose.

They took their time putting together a pretty killer 45 filled Jukebox, so be sure to give it a once over and ask the bartender for a token to make the magic happen.

Also - it's reservations only, so call ahead.

Ideal For

Hiding in plain sight ever-so-slightly off the beaten path.

Highlights
