My Perfect Day - Mia Maestro

Actress Mia Maestro shares with U her favorite Miami hangouts, giving you an insight into her "Perfect Day".

How do you start your day?

I love yoga and so I enjoy going to the Green Monkey or the Ashtanga Miami Life Center. I also really like to cook so I usually make myself breakfast. The Coconut Grove organic market has great organic veggies and paleo bread. Recently I'm really into making a poached egg served over a bed of kale, dandelions and summer squash with a slice of bread and goat yogurt. And I always have tea.

Best place for a stroll?

The Colony Theatre, where we are rehearsing for Terror, is on Lincoln Road so that's where I usually stroll. If our breaks are longer, I also enjoy Purdy Avenue along the water.

Favorite clothing store?

I love Argentinian fashion designer CAROLINA K. She has a store at the Faena Hotel Miami Beach and a studio in Wynwood.

Miami landmark you admire?

The Key Biscayne Nature Center and the University of Miami Shark Research and Conservation Program. Whenever I am in town for an extended period of time I always contact them to see if they need help with the sea turtles or tagging sharks.

Cocktail of choice?

Dirty vodka martini or Aperol Spritz - depending on my mood and the weather.

Restaurants you are dying to try?

I really want to try Niu Kitchen. I've heard great things. I also want to check out Freehand's Twenty Seven. I've heard it's very eclectic and fresh.

Best place to relax?

Plant the Future is my friend Paola Teppa's studio in Wynwood and it's such a magical place. I love going there.

Favorite thing about Miami?

The Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Sometimes I just take my tea and meditate there. I also love the Keys.

What drew you to Terror, Miami New Drama’s first performance of the 2017 season at the Colony Theatre?

I wanted to go back to the stage. I am also a musician and just love performing in front of a live audience. And when Gregory Mosher (director and two-time Tony Award-winner) reached out, I had to say yes. It's a great interactive play where the audience will be able to vote at the end to decide my fate. I think it's going to incite a lot of talks and a wonderful conversation after a show is all I can ask for. I'm really proud and happy to be in Miami for this - and escaping the winter weather isn't bad either. I also feel lucky to be doing what I love most.

Argentinian actress, Mia Maestro is known for her leading role as Nora Martinez in the hit FX TV series The Strain, as Nadia Santos in the television drama Alias, as Christina Kahlo in Frida, and as Carmen in The Twilight Saga. Maestro’s next leading role is on Colony Theatre’s stage in Terror.

Terror is the American adaptation and translation of the German play created by Ferdinand von Schirach. The internationally acclaimed drama casts the audience as jurors. The storyline follows a pilot facing trial after she has shot down a hijacked commercial flight headed for a crowded stadium. Her fate is in the audience’s hands. To further the show’s interactive quality the audience will be able to vote guilty or not guilty as the play unfolds.

The play will run January 28 – February 19. To purchase tickets, visit www.colonymb.org/terror
