Huneeus Vinters

A story in wine making and wine tasting.

The recent South Beach Wine & Food Festival brought culinary and wine aficionados alike to Miami. One of the events Urbanologie was invited to attend was the Huneeus Vinters Portfolio Wine Spectator Wine Seminar.

Their portfolio includes luxury wines Quintessa, Illumination, Flowers and Faust. Moderated by Senior Editor of Wine Spectator, Bruce Sanderson, it featured two very knowledgeable and passionate ladies as the day's speakers - Chantal Forthun, winemaker for Flowers Vineyards and Winery and Leslie Sullivan, Estates Director for Quintessa.

They took guests on a journey through the winding and picturesque roads of Sonoma and Napa.

The Flowers wines tasting included the 2014 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, 2012 Camp Meeting Ridge Chardonnay and 2012 Sea View Ridge Pinot Noir. The 2014 Chard boasted great acidity and a wonderful tangy mouthwatering element while the 2013 Chard had a creaminess to it. The Pinot had spicy and savoury flavors with a hint of florals.

Illumination 2015 was next. It was the wine the Huneeus family created to serve to their guests and to enjoy with some of their favorite seafood dishes.

Faust 2013 followed. Named for a faustian bargain or deal with the devil, this is son Agustin F. Huneeus' creation. It's a dense wine with dark fruit and aged 19 months in French oak.

Quintessa was founded in 1990 and to founding father Agustin Huneeus, this wine is his destiny. It's a culmination of a lifetime dedicated to wine. Named after the five hillsides that converge on the property, the wine had an elegant finesse to it.

As the saying goes, it takes a large fortune to make a small fortune in wine. But that's exactly what Huneeus has accomplished with his family of wines - a fortune in notoriety, respect and award-winning wines.
