Gramercy Park Hotel

Hidden away behind wrought iron gates, Gramercy Park is a magical world of lush greenery, stone statues and winding pathways – New York’s answer to Notting Hill’s gardens - and only a select few city dwellers ever set foot inside.

This hotel's VIP guests, however, are granted access to a few coveted keys to the city's only private park.

It's no surprise, then, that there's a bit of a members' club vibe throughout the Gramercy Park Hotel, a space so iconic it inspired a 2008 documentary by director Douglas Keeve, following the hotel's history from the Weissberg era through the 2003 renovation by designer Julian Schnabel. The Gramercy is one of the hottest private hangouts in town, renowned for its sunset views of Manhattan and for its al fresco parties during the summer months when the roof retracts. Expect to encounter celebs and fashion icons sipping cocktails alongside pieces by Richard Prince, Damien Hirst and Keith Haring.

The Schnabel furniture and interiors contribute to a Baroque-meets-boho vibe, set off by a ten-foot hand-carved Italian fireplace in the lobby, and museum-worthy works by Basquiat and Warhol. It's a gallery lover's dream hideaway, the perfect retreat between trips to the MoMA and Guggenheim. Rooms look out over a lovely stretch of Lexington Avenue or the secluded Gramercy Park, and have the original red oak floors.
