Badshah

Badshah joins the Sharma family

Restaurateur Abishek Sharma and former Babu Ji exec chef Charles Mani launch their latest venture with a Hell’s Kitchen-based Indian eatery 'Badshah'. Meaning “King of the Village” in Hindi, Badshah is situated between 52nd and 53rd street and serves up a variety of street food-based Indian dishes. The venue joins the Sharam family businesses alongside sibling restaurants, Surya and Swagat. In the kitchen, Mani employs the rare and unique skill of ‘tempering’, a method which is used to layer spices and flavours during the cooking process, resulting in popular transformations of common Hindi dishes. The diverse menu is divided into a series of appetisers featuring options such as ‘tandoors’, ‘roadside’ and ‘From the Pots’ as well as a daily ‘Chefs Tasting Menu’ of four to five different curries served with bread, rice and sauces.

Roadside options promote items like ‘Gol Goppa’ - crispy semolina balls with a savoury chutney and Quinoa Tikki with potatoes, black-eyed peas, and a pineapple, mango, ginger chutney with Tandoor selections hosting a series of Chicken dishes with marinades, butters and garnish. Cheese Kofta with cashew sauce, cardamom with microgreens come straight ‘From the Pots’ with alternative options like 'Chargrilled Atlantic Salt and Roasted Butternut Squash'. A series of Indian desserts, as well as ingredient, led cocktails like ‘Mango Lassi’ with infused with cloves, cinnamon, fennel, cumin, curry leaves, also feature. Badshah serves as an impressive tribute to Abishek’s Father's past, having once worked in Bukhara, a New Delhi restaurant frequently named as one of the 50 best in the world.
