Urbanologist and DJ Mikey Vettraino shares with U his favourite island hangouts...
The White Island of Ibiza has long been one of Europe’s most popular destinations for tourists - from those looking to let loose at the island’s legendary superclubs and while away their hangover at Cafe del Mar - to those who take advantage of the island’s beautiful scenery and blissful atmosphere, for the perfect family getaway. Urbanologist and Ibiza regular Mikey Vettraino lets you into to some of the island’s highlights.
There has been quite a shortage of members clubs on Ibiza, but luckily true Ibiza royalty has stepped in to remedy that. Jaime Fiorito, son of the legendary DJ Alfredo has recently joined forces with the Design Hotels group to open a new venue, La Granja, which promises to quickly become one of the hottest spots on the whole island. La Granja is a truly idyllic setting in the heart of an island known for partying, and has recently played host to none other than David Guetta, who certainly knows a thing or two about Ibiza, having DJ'd on the island since the early 1990s.
Hotel Es Vive has long been one of my favourite haunts on Ibiza and it’s location in Ibiza Town makes it the perfect place to base myself. The hotel - resplendent with Art Deco stylings - is such a good spot, that you almost don’t want to leave and explore the rest of the island! This year, the venue has really stepped things up a gear with a new wellness area and lounge bar, as well as a newly refurbished roof terrace, which offers some of the finest views on the whole island. First-class service, a huge range of cocktails and the perfect musical accompaniment can be taken as a given when visiting.
This venue has only recently opened but has already been described by The Telegraph as having the best food in Ibiza; having eaten there myself last month, it is hard to argue. Cala Bonita is a restaurant, bar and beach club set just up the road from Ibiza Town by the picturesque S'estanyol beach. Highly recommended as both a place to eat and somewhere to make the most of the ever-beautiful Ibizan sunset!
No trip to Ibiza is complete without an escape to the more tranquil, northern part of the island, and the recently opened Los Enamorados encapsulates this perfectly. It's first and foremost a hotel, beautifully decorated with a really individual hippy vibe, and even comes with a guarantee of your money back if you can't see the sea from your balcony! Even if your staying elsewhere on the island, Los Enamorados is still well worth a visit, with a top quality restaurant, beach bar and bazaar also offered at this hidden gem.
Pacha is one of the most famous clubs in Ibiza for very good reason - it is one of the best! I’m particularly looking forward to Hot Since 82’s residency there with his new night Labyrinth, which will see the seasoned DJ combining cutting-edge house grooves with a few more familiar classics. He’s also a very well-connected guy so we can look forward to some really exciting guests over the residency, with Adam Beyer, Maya Jane Coles and David Morales already confirmed. The residency runs each Friday from May 26th to October 6th.
