My Perfect Day - Josiah Citrin

The chef patron of the fine dining restaurant Melisse in Santa Monica and the more casual Charcoal in Venice, shares with U his tips and hangouts, giving U an insight into his perfect day in L.A.

How do you start your day?
I usually start my day with a big cup of coffee and either bike along the coast or make my way to the gym.

Leisurely lunch go to?
Shunji for sushi.

Favorite way to pass the time in L.A.?
Surfing or hanging at the beach.

Favorite L.A. landmark, and why?
Surfrider Beach in Malibu and the pier is iconic. I grew up surfing there so it always brings back great memories.

Tipple of choice and favorite cocktail hangout?
Bourbon is my go-to.  I love going to Scopa for cocktails. Great spot and super close to both my home and my restaurant Charcoal.

Favorite dining destinations, and why?
Tokyo is definitely one of my favorite dining destinations. The amount of choices for food while walking down the street seems infinite. It’s a wonderfully unique experience. The pace and culture is totally different from LA, and I love that about it.

Final stop for a nightcap, and why?
The Daily Pint in Santa Monica is a great final stop and has an amazing selection of bourbons.

Where next on your travels?
Southeast Asia. I’ve always wanted to explore Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos.
