Camperdown Elm

A fine dining restaurant with a neighborhood feel and prices has opened in Brooklyn’s South Slope, introducing chef Brad Willits.

Named after a famous elm tree in Prospect Park, this rustic restaurant features a salvaged-wood bar, butcher-block tabletops and a platinum-printed photograph of the eponymous plant by Richard Rethemeyer.

The owner Nao Minami has teamed up with chef Willits, who was the executive sous-chef at Agern, to create a neighborhood restaurant with new American fare in the former Thistle Hill Tavern. The menu starts with snacks like squid crackers with mackerel path and gradually moves to large plates, with starters including sweetbreads with broccoli mayonnaise and main dishes such as arctic char with a potato salad and mustard seeds.

Prices are accessible making Camperdown Elm a perfect neighborhood gem.
